Now you can tool around in a Philippine-made folding bike thanks to Nyfti, a new bicycle brand that is the brainchild of Pinoy bike enthusiasts and entrepreneurs Carl Mamawal, Isidro Marfori and Miguel Marfori. Mamawal says Nyfti is the first Filipino folding bike maker.
Mamawal claims his bike has the smallest fold volume in its class, about 545mm long, 325mm wide and 645mm high, but still has a full-size geometry for adult riders. Each bike is made of chrome-molybdenum steel tubing and weighs about ten kilograms. The wheels are 16-inches in diameter and the transmission has eight speeds.
It will take about 20 seconds to fold a Nyfti, probably with some practice.
Mamawal says you can go about 20 kilometers per hour in a Nyfti, which will sell for P45,000. The bikes are lovingly crafted in the company’s shop in Leon Guinto, Manila.
There are small trainer wheels in the back of a Nyfti that allow you to roll the bike around like a cart when folded.
According to Mamawal, one of the advantages of going for a Nyfti over established brands is that the components are not bespoke and made by the bicycle company. The components on Nyftis are readily available and upgradeable.
